Arkansas fires HC Chad Morris

Arkansas announced the firing of head coach Chad Morris on Sunday after dropping to 2-8.

Morris lasted less than two full seasons with the Razorbacks, earning a 4-18 record with no SEC wins.

The 50-year-old was hired in 2018 following three years at SMU, where he improved his record each campaign.

"As part of my continued evaluation, I have come to the conclusion that a change in leadership is necessary to move our football program forward and position it for success," athletic director Hunter Yurachek said in a statement. "It is clear that we have not made the progress necessary to compete and win, especially within the Southeastern Conference.

"Throughout our history in football, as well as with our other sport programs, we have demonstrated that the University of Arkansas is capable of being nationally competitive. I have no doubt that as we move forward, we will identify a head coach that will help lead our program to that benchmark."

Arkansas currently sits last in the SEC West and is the only team without a conference win in 2019. The Razorbacks are averaging just 22.3 points per game, which ranks 108th in the nation.

Tight ends coach and special teams coordinator Barry Lunney Jr. will take over as the team's interim head coach for the remainder of the year.
