South Florida hires Jeff Scott as new HC
South Florida hired former Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott as its new head coach Monday, the school announced.
The Bulls dismissed Charlie Strong on Dec. 1 after three seasons at the helm.
Scott is known for his recruiting abilities and his success with talented wide receivers. He's coached a number of future NFL players at the position, including first-round picks DeAndre Hopkins, Sammy Watkins, and Mike Williams.
The 38-year-old Scott was promoted from receivers coach to co-offensive coordinator in 2015. He shared duties with Tony Elliott.
Clemson has been a perennial offensive powerhouse with the help of Scott. The Tigers own the No. 4 scoring offense this season and ranked inside the top four in both total yards per game and points per game during their championship-winning campaign in 2018.
Despite head coach Dabo Swinney's run of success this decade, Scott is the first assistant he's lost since 2016.
South Florida, meanwhile, ranked 112th in total offense in 2019. The Bulls are coming off back-to-back fourth-place finishes in the AAC East.
