Watch: No. 8 Texas erases 15-point deficit in under 3 minutes for OT win

For a lengthy stretch on Saturday afternoon, it appeared No. 8 Texas would join No. 3 Oklahoma as Big 12 powerhouses to fall in their conference openers.

The Longhorns trailed Texas Tech by 15 points in Lubbock with under three minutes to play before staging a furious comeback to tie the game and secure an eventual overtime victory. Here's how it went down:

Sam Ehlinger was brilliant for the majority of the contest and showed off some pinpoint accuracy with a perfect pass to Brennan Eagles in the back of the end zone with 2:39 to play. The ensuing extra point brought Texas within eight points.

With the Longhorns unable to stop the Red Raiders for most of the game, Texas head coach Tom Herman opted to attempt an onside kick. It turned out to be a smart decision.

It was only fitting that a game featuring a touchdown off a muffed punt and another off a blocked punt should also have some late special teams drama. Texas not only recovered the onside kick, but it did so inside the Texas Tech 45-yard line to gain excellent field position with the ball.

After consecutive penalties moved the ball outside the 15-yard line to give Texas first-and-goal from the 18, Ehlinger found Joshua Moore in the end zone to bring the Longhorns within two.

With the game on the line, Ehlinger went back to Eagles for the conversion, erasing the 15-point deficit and pushing the game to overtime. Texas secured the comeback win on the first series of the extra frame, turning a potentially crushing upset into an incredibly exciting victory.
