Texas Tech is making a change at quarterback after opening the season 1-3, as head coach Matt Wells announced Wednesday that Henry Colombi would start over Alan Bowman against West Virginia on Oct. 24.

Bowman started each of the Red Raiders' first four games but Colombi, a transfer from Utah State, relieved the redshirt sophomore twice during the season due to injuries.

"(Colombi) was aggressive (when on the field)," Wells said, according to ESPN's Sam Khan Jr. "I think he jump-started the offense. I think guys around him responded, we moved the ball better ... and he did a nice job with the offense.

"Alan has played OK," he added. "He has not played bad. He's not the reason we're 1-3."

Bowman has been Texas Tech's starting quarterback for the past two years, though injuries ended his first two seasons early.

Colombi appeared in 13 games for the Aggies and backed up Jordan Love in 2019 before he was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the first round this past April.
