Former Miami head coach Randy Shannon is joining Florida State as a senior defensive analyst, the school announced Monday.

"Randy Shannon is a tremendous addition to our staff," head coach Mike Norvell said.

Norvell added: "I have all the respect in the world for the person and coach Randy Shannon is. His unique perspective will be valuable to Coach Fuller and the rest of our defensive staff, while his relationships in Miami and throughout the state of Florida will be a great benefit for our entire program."

Shannon served as the Hurricanes' head coach from 2007-10 and compiled a 28-22 record. He was previously Miami's defensive coordinator for six seasons before becoming the team's head coach. His defense ranked top ten nationally in five of his six seasons as a coordinator at Miami.

He's most recently coming off a three-year stint as UCF's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

Shannon comes equipped with 29 years of experience on the sideline and has directly coached nine first-team All-Americans, 78 all-conference performers, and 52 players who ended up being drafted in the NFL, including 19 first-round picks.
