The NCAA council is expected to set June 1 as the end date for the current recruiting dead period, multiple sources told CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd.

The current dead period has lasted nearly 15 months and been extended eight times since it was first imposed on March 13, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A dead period prevents programs from hosting or visiting recruits; coaches and prospects have been left to communicate through video calls.

There's a belief that the recruiting cycle can return to in-person contact near the second half of 2021 as vaccination numbers rise, according to Dodd. It's reportedly expected that football camps and official visits to college campuses will be permitted.

"No matter what, it's visits and camps and clinics (being allowed on June 1)," a source told Dodd.

The NCAA council is scheduled to meet Wednesday and Thursday before making an official ruling. The NCAA football oversight committee reportedly recommended the summer end date in March, but the council did not make a decision at the time.
