Ohio dad builds 'Field of Dreams' in backyard for 5-year-old son

An Ohio dad has transformed his backyard into a real-life "Field of Dreams" for his 5-year-old son.

Jason Kidd told Austin Love of WKYC Channel 3 that he was playing T-ball with his son about two years ago when the boy asked if they could build their own baseball field. Kidd initially said no, but after some consideration, decided to go through with it.

The field - which Kidd estimates cost himself around $30,000 - features infield clay, regulation bases, and a raised pitcher's mound.

"It probably wasn't the smartest financial decision, but that's okay," he said. "It's baseball."

Since building the field, Kidd has heard plenty of references to "Field of Dreams," the 1989 baseball classic starring Kevin Costner.

"Thousands of people online," he said. "'If you build it he will come.' All that stuff."
