Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki would like to see Luka Doncic follow his lead and stay with the team for the entirety of his NBA career.

"At 20, it has been a lot of fun watching him play. I hope he stays in Dallas his entire career, I hope I can continue having a good time watching him play for a long time," Nowitzki said of the second-year point guard at the 2020 Laureus World Sports Awards in Berlin on Monday, according to Eurohoops.net.

"Luka is very young. I hope he's able to build something and play at a very high level. I hope one day he can bring a championship home," Nowitzki added.

Doncic, who's set to become a restricted free agent in 2022, has made it known that he wants to remain in Dallas long term.

"I want to stay here," he told reporters at the Mavs' media day in October. "If they want me, I'll be here."

Doncic is averaging 28.9 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 8.7 assists across 44 games this season.
