Spike Lee deletes post claiming Kaepernick signed with Seahawks

For a few hours on Memorial Day weekend, it appeared as though Colin Kaepernick had found himself a new home.

Seemingly edging out NFL insiders for what would have been a major offseason scoop, movie director Spike Lee took to Instagram on Saturday to congratulate Colin Kaepernick on signing with the Seattle Seahawks.

Kaepernick recently visited the Seahawks as part of the club's ongoing search for a backup quarterback, and since reports indicated the meeting went well, the move would have made sense.

There was no confirmation of a deal following Lee's apparent announcement, however, and the post was deleted a short time later. A number of reporters, including Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, have since communicated that such a signing has yet to happen.

Kaepernick may well end up with the Seahawks at some point, and it seems possible the two sides could begin moving toward a deal before long, but perhaps Lee simply jumped the gun.

Either way, Kaerpernick's situation remains something to monitor.

There's been no shortage of controversy surrounding the fact that the veteran quarterback remains unsigned to this point in the offseason, with many wondering whether he's being "blackballed" in response to his protests during pregame national anthems last year.

Kaepernick showed flashes of his former level of play despite an otherwise disastrous 49ers offense in 2016, throwing for 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns, and just four interceptions across 11 starts.
