Raiders GM Mayock: Gruden has final say on roster

General manager Mike Mayock clarified how the power dynamic will work between him and head coach Jon Gruden as the Oakland Raiders undergo a rebuild of their team.

"In all honesty, Jon's got final say, if it ever comes to that, and I've got zero problems with that," Mayock said to ESPN's Steve Levy, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez.

Although Gruden may be calling the final shots on personnel decisions, Mayock believes the relationship will be mutually beneficial for the team.

"Now, having said that, I think we're going to come to a consensus and I like a little yelling, a little screaming, a little fighting for what player you believe in," Mayock said. "But at the end of the day, I guarantee you, Jon Gruden and I are going to know what a Raider looks like and smells like. I don't think we're going to have any issues."

The Raiders brought Mayock in on Dec. 31 after firing ex-general manager Reggie McKenzie earlier in the month.

It was believed Gruden would have a heavy hand in roster decisions thanks in part to his 10-year, $100-million contract.

Mayock, a former NFL Network analyst, is seen as one of the NFL draft's premier voices. The Raiders have three first-round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft.
