Fitzgerald undecided on playing 16th season
Future Hall of Fame wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald hasn't yet decided if he'll return for a 16th season in the NFL, he told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Arizona Cardinals legend is coming off a 2018 campaign in which he caught 69 passes for 734 yards and six touchdowns over a full 16 games, with his team going just 3-13 and ending up with the No. 1 pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.
It was Fitzgerald's fourth consecutive 16-game season, but it was his lowest catch total since 2014 - he led the league with 107 receptions in 2015 - and the lowest yardage total of his career. His six scores matched his output from each of the previous two seasons.
Newly-hired head coach Kliff Kingsbury believes there's plenty that the former Walter Payton Man of the Year can bring to the rebuilding team, but he'll leave the decision for the front office.
"I'll leave it to these guys who write the checks," Kingsbury said. "Like I said, what a great role model, what a great leader to have on your team, and I would be honored and love to work with him. He's a guy that I've admired from afar for a long time, and I think we all hope that he'll be back."
The 11-time Pro Bowler played the 2018 season under a cap hit of $16.85 million but is set to become a free agent at the end of the league year in March.
Fitzgerald said last offseason that if he's not playing in Arizona, he won't be playing anywhere. The now 35-year-old was drafted third overall by the Cardinals in the 2004 draft.
