Elway admits Keenum likely just 'short-term fix' for Broncos

Since winning Super Bowl 50 in 2015, the Denver Broncos have gone 20-28, parted ways with two coaches, and have failed to find the proper successor to Peyton Manning at quarterback.

The Broncos signed journeyman pivot Case Keenum to a two-year, $36-million contract last offseason, but after an uninspiring 6-10 campaign, vice president of football operations John Elway admitted Keenum likely won't have an extended stay as the starter.

"Obviously, we've got to - Case is probably a short-term fix - find the long-term guy for us," Elway told NBC Sports' Peter King.

"When we do find that guy, we've got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don't find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot."

The Broncos own the 10th overall pick in April's draft, which should put them in position to select a top-rated quarterback, but may not be high enough to take the first passer off the board.
