Lee plans on playing in 2019 amid uncertain future with Cowboys

It's unclear if Sean Lee has a future with the Dallas Cowboys, but the two-time Pro Bowl linebacker has no intentions of retiring, regardless of how his offseason plays out.

"I plan on playing next year," Lee said, according to Mike Fisher of 247Sports.

Lee suited up for only seven games in 2018 and was unable to regain his starting job after breakout seasons from Jaylon Smith and rookie Leighton Vander Esch. If he returns to Dallas for 2019, he'd likely be a backup.

The veteran linebacker has a long injury history. He most recently struggled through multiple hamstring injuries and has suffered three concussions during his career, leading to speculation that he could hang up his cleats.

Lee will turn 33 years old in June. He has one year and a $10-million cap hit left on his contract.

The Cowboys have around $46 million available in cap space, according to Spotrac. However, Demarcus Lawrence, Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and Amari Cooper all need big-money extensions in the next two offseasons.
