The Cincinnati Bengals could finally be close to landing their defensive coordinator for 2019.

New York Giants defensive backs coach Lou Anarumo will interview with the Bengals this week, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero report. They characterize him as the leading candidate for the job on new head coach Zac Taylor's staff.

Jack Del Rio and Florida assistant Todd Grantham were two early favorites for the opening, but Cincinnati could not secure either hire.

The New Orleans Saints recently blocked defensive backs coach Aaron Glenn from interviewing with the Bengals, and Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley declined an interview.

Taylor and Anarumo coached together on the Miami Dolphins' staff from 2013-15. The two spent the 2015 season as the club's offensive coordinator and interim DC, respectively.
