Russell Wilson is the next superstar quarterback in line for a massive payday as he's set to enter a contract year, and the Seattle Seahawks might have to make history to keep him in the building.

Asked by Jimmy Fallon if his deal could exceed Aaron Rodgers' league-leading $33.5 million per year contract, Wilson said, "There's a great potential in that. We'll see what happens ... It's not like it's gonna make me feel bad."

Wilson inked a four-year extension worth $21.9 million annually in 2015, but the quarterback market has exploded since then. Eleven passers now average more money per season than the former third-round pick, per Spotrac.

Wilson has been one of the league's most productive signal-callers since signing his first extension. His passer rating of 101.5 ranks fifth since 2015 and his 124 touchdown passes trails only Tom Brady. He also has 11 game-winning drives and 11 fourth-quarter comebacks over that period.

While the Seahawks are widely expected to give Wilson the contract he desires, there's been rumblings about a potential trade to the New York Giants. However, the quarterback laughed off the possibility of leaving Seattle.

"I'm not sure the Seahawks are going to let me get away," Wilson said. "I love Seattle. Seattle's a special place. I've won a Super Bowl there, been to two Super Bowls, multiple playoff games and everyone else."
