The Los Angeles Rams have exercised the fifth-year option on quarterback Jared Goff's rookie contract, the team announced on Tuesday.

Los Angeles now has two years to sign Goff to a long-term extension, though he's unlikely to receive a new deal before the 2019 campaign.

The 24-year-old rebounded spectacularly from an abysmal rookie season, throwing for 8,492 yards and 60 touchdowns over the last two years under the guidance of head coach Sean McVay.

However, Goff wasn't at his best during the Rams' run to Super Bowl LIII. He threw one touchdown pass, two interceptions, and completed 55.7 percent of his throws over three playoff games, causing some to question if he's a product of McVay's system rather than a top-flight pivot.

He became the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft after the Rams traded up to select him.
