Report: Broncos won't trade Chris Harris

The Denver Broncos do not intend to trade disgruntled cornerback Chris Harris Jr., a source told 9 News' Mike Klis.

One NFL team expressed interest in acquiring Harris prior to last month's draft but backed off, Klis reports.

The 29-year-old has missed the first six weeks of Denver's offseason program in hopes of obtaining a new contract.

Harris' agent recently met with Broncos general manager John Elway, reiterating his client's request of at least $15 million in average annual value. He's currently set to enter the final year of his contract with a base salary of $7.8 million.

Elway and Harris' agent are scheduled to meet again this week, at which point the GM is expected to submit a counteroffer.

The veteran defender has been one of the league's best cornerbacks in recent years and made his fourth Pro Bowl last season. This offseason, the Broncos signed defensive backs Kareem Jackson and Bryce Callahan to deals averaging $11 million and $7 million annually, respectively.
