Veteran safety Glover Quin is retiring from the NFL after 10 seasons.

"Playing professional sports was always a dream of mine. Football was the route I chose and God blessed me to be able to persevere through all the hardships and play 10 years in the NFL," Quin said in a text message to ESPN's Michael Rothstein.

Quin spent his last six seasons with the Detroit Lions after beginning his career with the Houston Texans.

"I'm so thankful for the opportunity I had to play in the NFL with such great players and two great organizations," he added.

The 33-year-old, a fourth-round pick of the Texans in 2009, played in 159 career games, recording 737 tackles, 85 passes defensed, and 24 interceptions. He made the Pro Bowl in 2014.

Quin hadn't missed a game or a start since his rookie campaign.
