Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice is out indefinitely after undergoing knee surgery Thursday, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Guice met with orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews earlier Thursday to get a second opinion on his torn meniscus, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Schefter previously reported the running back would be facing a six-to-eight week recovery if he did go under the knife.

Guice's injury is to his right knee. The running back missed all of last season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee.

Despite his poor injury luck, Guice appeared to be in good spirits when penning a tweet on Thursday.

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said Wednesday that Adrian Peterson will start in Guice's absence. The likely future Hall of Famer was a healthy scratch for the first time in his 13-year career in Week 1.
