Tomlin: Steelers open to helping Brown but no interest in signing him
Free-agent wide receiver Antonio Brown is working to rebuild bridges in his attempt to get back into the NFL, but a reunion with the Pittsburgh Steelers is apparently off the table right now.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Monday on ESPN's 'First Take" that while the organization would help the troubled wideout, it isn't interested in signing him to a contract.
"Once a Steeler, always a Steeler," Tomlin said of Brown, according to Chris Adamski of TribLIVE. "We had great success over the course of nine-plus years …
"We will always be interested in his development as a man, and we will be open to assisting him in that. But we have no current business interest at this time."
Brown recently apologized to the Steelers for his messy departure from the team after the 2018 campaign. He also extended an olive branch to Ben Roethlisberger, saying he didn't know how good he had it in Pittsburgh with the veteran quarterback.
While the 31-year-old Brown wants to play in 2020, he could find it difficult to land with a new team until the NFL completes its investigation of him over allegations of sexual assault and sexual misconduct.
Brown claimed to TMZ Sports on Saturday, however, that he will meet with clubs at the scouting combine at the end of February.
