This year's "Hard Knocks" opened with an emotional conversation between head coach Anthony Lynn and his team, the Los Angeles Chargers.

During the scene, Lynn revealed he was infected with COVID-19.

"I can't promise you that you're not going to get infected," Lynn told his players. "I got infected. I've talked to some people that say they're sick of this virus, only what the hell is that supposed to mean?

"Let me tell you something, you ain't promised next year. You ain't promised tomorrow. What I want to do is, I want to limit your exposures ... one team will do this better than the other 31."

"Hard Knocks" debuted Tuesday with the first of five episodes. For the first time the show features two teams, highlighting both the Chargers' and Los Angeles Rams' training camp.

The COVID-19 pandemic and how both clubs adapt to new protocols is expected to be a major component of the season.

Lynn is the third NFL head coach known to contract the virus, joining Sean Payton of the New Orleans Saints and Doug Pederson of the Philadelphia Eagles.
