The comeback is officially complete.

Alex Smith made his first appearance since suffering a serious leg injury in 2018 during Washington's 30-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Smith relieved Kyle Allen, who exited due to a helmet-to-helmet hit, and he completed nine passes for 37 yards. The veteran quarterback didn't throw a touchdown or interception during the contest.

The team later cleared Allen to return for the second half, but Washington opted to keep Smith under center.

The 36-year-old missed all of last season while rehabbing his leg injury. Doctors cleared Smith to resume football activities in July, and Washington activated him from the physically unable to perform list before Week 1.

Allen started against the Rams after head coach Ron Rivera demoted second-year signal-caller Dwayne Haskins to third string.

The loss dropped Washington to 1-4.
