Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott expressed frustration following quarterback Dak Prescott's gruesome injury after the team's 37-34 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday.

"It's tough just because we came (into the NFL) together," Elliott said, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. "I know how much this means to him. All we can do is support him and go out there and win ballgames for him. ... It just sucks to see a warrior go down like that."

"I know we won. It just sucks to lose Dak, our leader. We just got to go out there and play for him," added Elliott, who was selected fourth overall in 2016 - three rounds before Prescott.

Prescott suffered a right ankle compound fracture and dislocation in the third quarter against the Giants, and he was carted off the field in tears. He was taken to the hospital to undergo surgery.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is confident the signal-caller will bounce back.

"I feel terrible for him. He was having a tremendous year. He's made such an impression on me. He's the leader of this team," said McCarthy.

"No doubt he will bounce back another chapter in a great story," the coach added, according to Jane Slater of NFL Network.

The Cowboys are now set to rely on Andy Dalton under center. The 10-year veteran, who signed with the club this offseason, said he feels for Prescott.

"It's emotional. I'm definitely praying for him," said Dalton. "... It's been a lot of fun being around him this year. I just hate it for him."

Dalton went 9-of-11 passing with 111 yards while also orchestrating the game-winning drive during his relief appearance against the Giants.

Prescott, a two-time Pro Bowler, was leading the NFL in completions (137) and yards (1,690) through the first four weeks of the season.
