The New England Patriots officially activated quarterback Cam Newton off the reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday, according to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.

Newton is expected to rejoin the team for practice Thursday, putting the quarterback on track to play against the Denver Broncos in Week 6, a source told ESPN's Field Yates.

Newton tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct. 2, and he missed one game versus the Kansas City Chiefs while on the reserve list.

The three-time Pro Bowler was off to a strong start for New England before contracting the coronavirus, totaling six touchdowns against two turnovers and completing a career-high 68.1% of his pass attempts over three starts.

Multiple Patriots players tested positive for COVID-19 over the last two weeks following Newton, forcing the team to temporarily shut down its facilities. Players returned to the building Wednesday, but they didn't practice.

New England plans to practice Thursday and Friday before staging a walk-through Saturday and playing the Broncos on Sunday.
