McCarthy: Preparation before MNF blowout 'was our best this year'

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said preparation wasn't a problem after the Arizona Cardinals spanked his team on Monday Night Football.

"I felt like our preparation coming into the game was our best this year," he told reporters, according to The Athletic's Jon Machota.

The Cowboys committed four turnovers en route to a 38-10 blowout loss. Through six weeks, Dallas leads the NFL with 15 giveaways, ranks last in points allowed, and has the seventh-most penalties. The Cowboys have won just two of their first six games.

"We didn't play very well on offense, defense, or special teams," said McCarthy, who's in his first year at the helm after replacing Jason Garrett in January. "Most importantly, I didn't coach very well. I have a continuing issue with ball security on my football team."

Of the four giveaways, two came via Ezekiel Elliott fumbles, while the other two came on Andy Dalton interceptions. Elliott watched Tony Pollard cut into his playing time following his blunders, and shouldered the blame for the Cowboys' latest disappointment once it was over.

"I want to say I'm sorry, and this one is on me," he said. "I need to be better."

Despite their 2-4 record, the Cowboys still sit in first place in the weak NFC East.
