Super Bowl odds update: Saints, NFC West stock rising after Week 1

The first week of NFL action is coming to an end, and we've already seen a few teams' title profiles dramatically change - for better and for worse. Here are the updated Super Bowl odds at theScore Bet and a few of this week's biggest adjustments:

Saints climbing after destroying Packers

Who saw this one coming? No team made a bigger jump in the Super Bowl market than the Saints, who moved from 37-1 to 25-1 after humiliating the Packers in a result that (almost) nobody predicted.

The biggest takeaway is the stellar play of Jameis Winston, who tossed five touchdowns and crucially finished without an interception or fumble for the first time since Week 2 of the 2019 season. The Saints' defense also showed its elite form, holding the Packers' juggernaut offense to three points and forcing three turnovers.

Two of those came on ill-advised throws from Aaron Rodgers, who clearly doesn't look like the same player who won MVP a year ago. Did an offseason away from the team leave him rusty for Week 1? Is the summer turmoil lingering for this group? Green Bay entered the season with myriad questions on both sides of the ball; Sunday presented even more, and it's hard to justify such a short title price (+1200) after what we saw this week.

NFC West dominates in 4-0 weekend

We knew the NFC West was likely the best division in football entering the year, and all four teams made their case as legitimate title contenders with stellar Week 1 performances.

The Rams, Seahawks, and Cardinals all boasted double-digit wins on Sunday, while the 49ers led by as many as 28 points before the Lions' failed rally in the second half. All four teams enjoyed stellar quarterback play - Matthew Stafford, Russell Wilson, and Kyler Murray look like bona fide MVP candidates, while Jimmy Garoppolo played one of the best games of his career after staving off rookie Trey Lance this summer.

San Francisco and Los Angeles were already clear title contenders, though Seattle (23-1 to 15-1) and Arizona (45-1 to 35-1) took a deserved leap into the Super Bowl conversation. All four of these teams are built to win it all; good luck figuring out which one will finish atop the division.

Lions replace Texans as NFL's doormat

It seemed hard to imagine that any team would unseat the Texans as the worst in the NFL - especially after just one week. But 60 minutes was enough for oddsmakers to bump Houston (350-1 to 200-1) ahead of the Lions (150-1 to 300-1) at the bottom of the oddsboard.

The Texans deserve some credit for blowing out the favored Jaguars (-3), who clearly aren't ready to compete yet with first-year coach Urban Meyer and rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Still, Houston starter Tyrod Taylor showed out with 291 yards and two touchdowns in his debut, and the Texans' defense impressed with three turnovers after recording an NFL-worst nine takeaways a year ago.

And then there's the Lions, whose late-game rally couldn't obscure a four-touchdown deficit that exposed the team's issues on both sides of the ball. Detroit's defense, which was inept a year ago, allowed 442 yards and 41 points, while quarterback Jared Goff played like an aimless checkdown artist in his first game away from the Rams, capped off by a fourth-down throw to no one to end the game. Some things never change.
