Report: Texans to start Keenum over Mills vs. Titans
The Houston Texans will start veteran quarterback Case Keenum against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday while standout rookie C.J. Stroud sits out with a concussion, reports NFL Network's James Palmer.
Davis Mills appeared to be the leading candidate to start after relieving an injured Stroud in Week 14. Keenum, 35, hasn't taken a single snap in 2023 while planted behind Stroud and Mills on the depth chart.
The Texans are in third place in the AFC South, but they're only one game behind the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts in the win column. Houston is on the fringe of the playoff picture with four weeks left in the NFL regular season.
Keenum possesses plenty of experience but has started only two games since the 2019 season. Mills, on the other hand, has started 26 contests since the Texans drafted him in the third round in 2021.
Houston ruled out Stroud - the front-runner for the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year award - on Saturday. Stroud has thrown for 3,631 yards and 20 touchdowns with only five interceptions as a rookie.
