New Orleans Saints pass-rusher Chase Young is set to undergo neck surgery and will be out until training camp, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Young is expected to be ready for the start of the season, and the Saints were aware of his injury before signing him to a one-year deal reportedly worth a fully guaranteed $13 million on Monday.

The former Washington Commanders standout sat out the first game of last season due to a stinger suffered in the preseason. Young missed half of the 2021 season and most of the following year due to a torn ACL.

The Commanders traded the former No. 2 overall pick to the San Francisco 49ers for a third-round pick halfway through the 2023 campaign.

Young was on pace for a career-high in sacks after producing five in seven appearances in Washington. However, he struggled to make an impact in San Francisco - earning just 2.5 sacks in nine regular-season games and one in three postseason contests - and was allowed to hit the open market.

The Saints are looking for Young to boost a pass-rushing unit that was among the NFL's worst in 2023, ranking 29th in total team sacks. Young, Cameron Jordan, and Carl Granderson will form New Orleans' top defensive end trio.
