Flames go back to beloved retro uniforms on full-time basis

The Calgary Flames are ditching black and going back to the past.

The club announced Monday it will sport red and yellow retro uniforms on a full-time basis when the NHL's next season begins.

The new (old) look is essentially an exact recreation of what the team sported from 1980-94.

Black trim was added to the Flames' jerseys in 1995, and the design underwent several changes in the ensuing years (including the polarizing "horse" jerseys introduced in 1998).

The Flames reintroduced their classic look as a throwback uniform worn on special occasions in 2009, which prompted fans to clamor for a return to the beloved aesthetic on a full-time basis.
