Flyers trade Farabee, Frost to Flames for Kuzmenko, Pelletier, picks
The Philadelphia Flyers traded forwards Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost to the Calgary Flames for wingers Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2028 seventh-rounder, the teams announced.
Kuzmenko waived his no-trade clause to facilitate the deal, per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. He has four goals and 11 assists in 37 games with Calgary this season. He's in his first full campaign with the Flames, who acquired him in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks nearly a year ago to the day, on Jan. 31, 2024.
The Russian played with Flyers phenom and countryman Matvei Michkov with the KHL's SKA Saint Petersburg in 2021-22.
Kuzmenko, who turns 29 on Feb. 4, racked up 39 goals along with 35 assists over 81 games in his first North American season with the Canucks in 2022-23. However, he led the NHL with a shooting percentage of 27.3 during that campaign, and he hasn't come close to matching that scoring prowess over a full season since then.
The Yakutsk-born winger collected only eight goals and 13 assists over 43 contests with Vancouver the next season before getting traded. He then posted nearly a point per game (25 in 29, including 14 tallies) with the Flames down the stretch.
Farabee was in his sixth campaign with the Flyers. He's a two-time 20-goal scorer drafted by Philadelphia 14th overall in 2018. The American, who turns 25 on Feb. 25, has eight tallies and 11 helpers over 50 games in 2024-25.
Frost was also in his sixth season with Philadelphia. The 25-year-old Canadian set career highs with 19 goals and 46 points across 81 contests in 2022-23. He has 11 goals and 14 assists in 49 games over this campaign.
Pelletier is a 23-year-old forward who the Flames selected 26th overall in 2019. He has four tallies and seven helpers across 24 games in 2024-25.
Neither team retained salary in the trade.
Kuzmenko is a pending unrestricted free agent carrying a $5.5-million cap hit, per PuckPedia. Farabee is on the books through 2027-28 at $5 million. Frost is a pending restricted free agent with a $2.1 million cap hit, and Pelletier is also a pending RFA at $800,000.
