Lyles headlines group of 3 Americans advancing to 100m final

Noah Lyles headlines a group of three American sprinters that advanced to the final of the 100m on Sunday in Paris.

With a time of 9.83 seconds, Lyles was second to Jamiaca's Oblique Seville in the first semifinal. Fred Kerley and Kenneth Bednarek also qualified for the final with times of 9.84 and 9.93, respectively.

Lyles, the 2023 world champion at both 100m and 200m, is looking to become the first U.S. male sprinter to earn Olympic gold in this event since Justin Gatlin at the 2004 Athens Games. Kerley was the silver medalist behind Italy's Marcell Jacobs at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Seville and fellow Jamaican Kishane Thompson were the fastest to qualify for the final. Thompson had the best time at 9.80 seconds, with Seville just .01 seconds behind.

Jacobs will look to defend his gold medal after advancing to the final. Canada's Andre De Grasse, a two-time bronze medalist in the event, failed to make the final after posting a time of 9.98.
