Gary Woodland fired a bogey-free, 6-under 65 in Round 2 of the U.S. Open to take a two-shot lead into the weekend.

The 35-year-old rode a smoking hot putter on Friday. He gained over four strokes with his flatstick, bolstered by a 51-foot birdie putt on his final hole to finish the day at 9-under.

Woodland became only the second player in the last 30 years to shoot a bogey-free 65 or better at Pebble Beach during the U.S. Open. Tiger Woods accomplished the feat in 2000.

Justin Rose held the clubhouse lead for most of the day at 7-under. He carded a 1-under 70 early Friday but later relinquished the top spot to Woodland.

Louis Oosthuizen sits alone in third at 6-under and three back of Woodland after shooting 70 in Round 2.

Rory McIlroy shot 2-under and Aaron Wise posted an even-par round to share fourth place.

Here's how the top of the leaderboard stands after Round 2:

Place Player To Par R2 Score
1 Gary Woodland -9 65
2 Justin Rose -7 70
3 Louis Oosthuizen -6 70
T4 Aaron Wise -5 71
T4 Rory McIlroy -5 69
T6 Chez Reavie -4 70
T6 Chesson Hadley -4 70
T6 Matt Kuchar -4 69
T6 Brooks Koepka -4 69
T6 Matt Wallace -4 68
T27 Jordan Spieth -1 69
T27 Phil Mickelson -1 69
T32 Tiger Woods E 72

Plenty of big names linger outside the top 10. Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele, Adam Scott, and Henrik Stenson are all at 3-under par.

Dustin Johnson is lurking at 2-under. He ranks fourth in strokes gained: tee to green for the week, but 113th in strokes gained: putting.
