Woods, Els focused on week ahead instead of Reed drama

Until the first ball is hit at Royal Melbourne to kick off the Presidents Cup, the aftershock from Patrick Reed's penalty at last week's Hero World Challenge will be one of the main talking points.

When team captains Tiger Woods and Ernie Els sat in front of the assembled media in Australia, they were asked numerous times about Reed. Tiger made it known that he and his team have put the incident behind them.

"It was not a lengthy conversation," Woods said of his talk with Reed. "Pat and I are very good friends. We kept it short and brief, to the point. And as I answered your question yesterday, the rules official gave him two shots. He finished at 16-under, two back of Henrik (Stenson), and now we're onto this week."

That doesn't mean the fans in Australia will forget about Reed's two-shot penalty. International team member Marc Leishman believes Reed has provided "some pretty good ammo" for the crowd to use to heckle the American.

While Woods agrees, he still has faith the Australian fans will remain respectful.

"I'm sure somebody (in the crowd) is going to say something out there. But I think that, in general, all the times I have been to Australia and have played here, the fans have been fantastic."

In addition to Leishman, fellow Aussie Cam Smith also chimed in.

"I don't have any sympathy for anyone that cheats," Smith said earlier in the week. "I hope the crowd absolutely gives it to not only him (Reed) but everyone (on the American team)."

Els understands the reaction from members of his International team.

"These guys are competitors. Obviously, they didn't like what they saw, and they came out and obviously you guys asked them questions about it," Els said. "... Like Tiger, we're moving on. We've got a cup to play for. It's got nothing to do with us."
