J.B. Holmes posted a 6-under 65 in Round 2 of the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Friday to carry a narrow one-shot lead into the weekend.

After shooting a first-round 64 at TPC Scottsdale, Holmes picked up right where he left off with three birdies and an eagle through his opening eight holes on Day 2. He did, however, bogey his final hole.

Holmes won his first two PGA Tour titles at the Phoenix Open in 2006 and 2008. If he hangs on this week, he'll add No. 6 to his career tally.

Wyndham Clark followed up his blistering 61 from Thursday with a 69 in Round 2. He'll lead the chase of Holmes on moving day.

Here's the top of the leaderboard after 36 holes:

Place Player To Par R2 Score
1 J.B. Holmes -13 65
2 Wyndham Clark -12 69
T3 Billy Horschel -11 68
T4 Byeong Hun An -11 66

T6 Nate Lashley -9 67
T8 Adam Long -8 68
T8 Branden Grace -8 67
T8 Xander Schauffele -8 67
T8 Webb Simpson -8 63

Webb Simpson fired the low round of the day with an 8-under 63. He carded six birdies on the back nine to vault into contention.

Jon Rahm, Tony Finau, and Bubba Watson sit in a tie for 12th at 7-under par.

Notables Justin Thomas (6-under) and defending champion Rickie Fowler (3-under) will both face an uphill battle this weekend.

Young stars Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, and Matthew Wolff join Jordan Spieth in the group failing to make the 1-under cutline.
