Webb Simpson beat Tony Finau on the first playoff hole to win the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Sunday.

Simpson entered the final round one shot behind Finau, and the two jockeyed for position atop the leaderboard all day at TPC Scottsdale. Simpson was able to take a one-shot lead with his birdie on No. 10, and Finau quickly erased that with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 12 and 13.

The tournament appeared to slip out of Simpson's hands when he found the water off the tee on the par-5 15th. He would bogey the hole to give Finau a two-shot lead with three holes to play.

However, Simpson birdied the final two holes to card a 2-under 69 and draw level with Finau, who missed a nine-foot putt on No. 18 that would have sealed his second victory.

Simpson birdied the first playoff hole to earn his sixth PGA Tour title and first since the 2018 Players Championship.

Finau, meanwhile, recorded his seventh worldwide runner-up result since his last victory at the 2016 Puerto Rico Open. During his winless drought, the 30-year-old has notched 28 top-10 finishes, which is tied with Dustin Johnson for the fourth most over that span, according to the 15th Club's Justin Ray.

Here's the top of the leaderboard after the Phoenix Open:

Place Player To Par R4 Score
1 Webb Simpson -17* 69
2 Tony Finau -17 70
T3 Justin Thomas -14 65
T3 Bubba Watson -14 66
T3 Nate Lashley -14 68
T6 Max Homa -13 68
T6 Scott Piercy -13 71

Notables Jon Rahm (11-under), Hideki Matsuyama (10-under), Matt Kuchar (10-under), and Xander Schauffele (10-under) all finished inside the top 16.

The PGA Tour heads to California next week for the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
