Nick Taylor fires 1st-round 63 to lead Pebble Beach Pro-Am by 2
Nick Taylor fired an 8-under 63 in Round 1 at Monterey Peninsula on Thursday to take a two-shot lead at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
The Canadian opened his day with an eagle and played bogey-free the rest of the way. He birdied his final two holes to create a gap over the field.
Patrick Cantlay and Chase Seiffert share second place at 6-under. Cantlay posted his 66 on Spyglass Hill and Seiffert shot 66 at Pebble Beach. This week's tournament uses a three-course rotation before concluding at Pebble Beach for Sunday's final round.

Defending champion Phil Mickelson carried the momentum from his T-3 finish at the Saudi International last week into Round 1 in California. He shot a 4-under 68 at Spyglass Hill to sit in a tie for 12th.
Jason Day joins Mickelson at 4-under after taking on Monterey Peninsula on Day 1.
First-round playing partners Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth shot 3-under and 2-under at Spyglass Hill, respectively.
