Brendan Steele carded a 3-under 67 in Round 2 of The Honda Classic to take a one-shot lead into the weekend.

The 36-year-old carried his remarkable ball-striking from Round 1 at PGA National into Friday and saw a few more putts drop to better yesterday's total by one.

His score could have been a stroke lower had his tee shot on the par-3 15th dropped instead of doing a full rotation around the lip of the cup:

J.T. Poston and two English veterans, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, share second place at 4-under.

Donald, the former No. 1 player in the world, carded six birdies on the back nine to put himself in contention at the event he won in 2006. The 42-year-old has only two top-10 results on the PGA Tour since the start of 2017.

Here's how the top of the leaderboard stands after 36 holes:

Place Player To Par R2 Score
1 Brendan Steele -5 67
T2 J.T. Poston -4 69
T2 Luke Donald -4 66
T2 Lee Westwood -4 69
T5 Gary Woodland -3 67
T5 Nick Watney -3 67
T5 Sepp Straka -3 67
T5 Cameron Davis -3 67

Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood, and Sungjae Im sit inside the top 10 at 2-under par.

Fans expecting to see big names play the weekend at PGA National will be disappointed. The field took a drastic hit with Rickie Fowler (4-over), Justin Rose (6-over), Brooks Koepka (8-over), Louis Oosthuizen (9-over), and Viktor Hovland (10-over) all missing the 3-over cutline.

Round 3 begins at 8:10 a.m. ET on Saturday with the final pairing teeing off at 1:45 p.m. Here's the broadcast schedule for the weekend:
