Tiger Woods and Collin Morikawa headline the list of notables whose attempts at winning the 120th U.S. Open are over after missing the 6-over cut.

Tiger Woods shot a 7-over 77 on Friday to end his chances of winning a 16th major championship. Woods made two birdies in his second round, but they came on the final three holes after he already carded five bogeys and two double-bogeys to finish at 10-over for the week. Tiger has now missed the cut in three of five major championships since winning the Masters in April 2019.

"It's never easy to not be playing for the championship on the weekend," Tiger said. "The whole goal of entering an event is to win, and when I don't give myself that opportunity over the weekend, it doesn't feel good."

Morikawa failed to birdie the par-5 9th, his final hole of the day, to miss only his third cut as a professional by a single shot. At No. 5 in the world, he's the top-ranked player who didn't make the weekend.

Phil Mickelson finished at 13-over in what might be his final U.S. Open. This was the 85th time he and Tiger played in the same major and only the second time they both missed the cut, according to CBS Sports.

Gary Woodland came up short in his title defense. Following his second 74 of the week, Woodland revealed he played through a torn labrum in his hip.

A quartet of Englishmen in Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, and Matt Fitzpatrick all missed the cut. All four are ranked inside the top 20 in the world.

Jordan Spieth shot 81 to post 14-over for the week and come in a tie for 124th.
