3M Open: What to know for the Minnesota event

Following an exciting weekend at St. Andrews that saw Australian Cameron Smith capture his first major title at the 150th Open Championship, the PGA TOUR heads back to the U.S. for the 3M Open.

Despite following the year's final major, the tournament still features top-ranked golfers such as Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, and Tony Finau. Players will compete for 500 FedEx Cup points and a portion of the $7.5-million purse as the season closes in on the upcoming playoffs.

Cameron Champ shot a final-round 5-under 66 to claim the 3M Open over Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, and Jhonattan Vegas by two strokes. Champ recorded a 69 and a pair of 67s heading into the final round, ultimately finishing the tournament at 15-under.

The win marked Champ's third victory after he'd previously won the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2018 and the Safeway Open in 2019.

Keith Mitchell rounded out the top five on the leaderboard, finishing the event three strokes back at 12-under.

2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama, the No. 14-ranked player in the world, headlines the field this week in Minnesota. Tony Finau (No. 17) and Sungjae Im (No. 24) round out the participants in the top 25.

Mardy Fish, who achieved six singles titles on the ATP Tour before retiring in 2015, will make his PGA TOUR debut on an exemption.

Recent Barracuda Championship winner Chez Reavie will tee it up Thursday, as will recent John Deere Classic winner J.T. Poston. Champ will also return to defend his title.

The course

TPC Twin Cities is a 7,431-yard par-71 course located in Blaine, Minnesota. The course has hosted all three 3M Opens since the tournament began in 2019.

TPC Twin Cities was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of Tom Lehman, who's from Minnesota, as a player consultant. The course features Bentgrass greens and fairways.
