Rocket Mortgage Classic: What to know for the TOUR's trip to Detroit

After an exciting weekend in Minnesota that saw Tony Finau return to the winner's circle, the TOUR heads east to Detroit for the fourth installment of the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Players will compete for 500 FedEx Cup points and a share of the $8.4-million purse in the TOUR's second-to-last stop before the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin.

Australian Cam Davis captured his maiden PGA TOUR victory after defeating Troy Merritt and Joaquin Niemann in a five-hole playoff. Niemann was knocked out of the playoff after making bogey on the first extra hole.

Davis shot rounds of 68, 68, 67, and 67 to post a tournament total of 18-under before the playoff.

Hank Lebioda and Alex Noren each came one stroke shy of being in the playoff, finishing at 17-under, while Brandon Hagy and Bubba Watson finished at 16-under.

World No. 4 Patrick Cantlay headlines the field this week in Detroit. The 30-year-old is joined by fellow top-20 players Will Zalatoris (No. 13), Finau (No. 16), Cameron Young (No. 19), and Max Homa (No. 20).

Both Zalatoris and Young are looking for their first career win on the PGA TOUR.

Rickie Fowler, Kevin Kisner, and Joel Dahmen will also be in the field this week. Last year's winner, Davis, will return to defend his title, along with 2019 winner Nate Lashley.

The course

Detroit Golf Club will once again host the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The tournament has been played at the same course all three years of its history, with this year being the fourth.

The tournament will be played on the club's "North Course," a 7,370-yard par 72 course. Donald Ross is the architect behind the course, with his design being completed by 1916.
