Report: Brewers, Phillies, Nationals among 6 teams monitoring top FA pitchers
The free-agent starting pitching market remains littered with top arms, though the lack of contracts signed by the group doesn't appear to be the result of diminished interest.
The Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Nationals, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, and New York Yankees are all currently monitoring the starting pitching market, one source told Jon Morosi of MLB.com.
Jake Arrieta, Lance Lynn, and Alex Cobb headline a group of starters still available. All three are tied to draft-pick compensation after rejecting a qualifying offer from their respective teams back in November.
2017 STATS
PITCHER | IP | ERA | SO | WHIP |
---|---|---|---|---|
Arrieta | 168.1 | 3.53 | 163 | 1.22 |
Lynn | 186.1 | 3.43 | 153 | 1.23 |
Cobb | 179.1 | 3.66 | 128 | 1.22 |
The Nationals, Phillies, and Brewers previously have been linked to Arrieta. Philadelphia is said to be open to a potential three-year deal with the former Cy Young winner.
Lynn was reportedly involved in contract discussions with the Orioles earlier this month, though the team has since gone on to sign Andrew Cashner and Chris Tillman. They still could use another starter, however.
Cobb has received interest from a number of teams but has not been heavily linked to anyone recently.
