Boone doesn't believe Yankees will sign Lynn, Cobb
The New York Yankees have been linked to the free-agent starting pitching market this winter, though new skipper Aaron Boone doesn't see his club in play for two of the top remaining arms before the regular season kicks off.
"At this point I don't see those guys as realistic options," Boone said when asked about the chances of signing either Alex Cobb or Lance Lynn, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. "It's my understanding that those guys aren't really in play for us."
The Yankees have Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray, CC Sabathia, and Jordan Montgomery penciled into their rotation, forming one of the top groups in the division.

General manager Brian Cashman has been more focused on acquiring position players than pitchers this offseason and has opted to trade - landing Giancarlo Stanton and Brandon Drury - as opposed to signing players. The Yankees have been adamant about remaining under the $197 million luxury-tax threshold, and have $161.8 million committed in salary for 2018, according to Cots Baseball Contracts.
