Injured Arsenal goalkeeper Cech likely out up to 3 weeks

Arsenal are likely to be without first-choice goalkeeper Petr Cech for up to three weeks after an injury suffered in Saturday's win over Watford, revealed manager Unai Emery.

Cech, 36, has started all seven of the Gunners' Premier League games thus far this season but was withdrawn from the eventual 2-0 victory shortly before halftime and replaced by summer signing Bernd Leno.

"I think it's a hamstring (injury)," Emery said after the game, as reported by BBC Sport's Saj Chowdhury. "Maybe he will miss two or three weeks. I hope not more. We will see tomorrow."

Leno made several key saves in the second half before Arsenal's two late goals won the game. Emery insisted he has full faith in the German, who moved to the Emirates Stadium in a £22.5-million deal from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, after seeing his commitment in training and patient attitude.

"He has been working every day so that when his moment arrives, he is OK to help us. And today, he did that," Emery added, as quoted by ESPN's Mattias Karen.

"He was patient to wait for his moment, and it's arriving. The most important is that when the team needs his help, he has to be prepared. And he is doing that."

The three-week timeframe for Cech would see him miss the Europa League clash with Qarabag FK on Thursday and next weekend's Premier League clash with London rivals Fulham. He may be saved from missing further action by the subsequent international break.
