Watch: 3-year-old becomes youngest anthem singer in Carrier Dome history
Drake Grillo did something no 3-year-old had ever done before at the Carrier Dome on Monday.
The Auburn, N.Y., native performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" ahead of the Syracuse women's basketball team's 94-45 win over Niagara, becoming the youngest national anthem singer in the stadium's history.
Grillo's mother, Chelsea, said he's a big sports fan and learned the words to the song by watching games on television.
"I just think he's too little to realize how big of a deal it is," Chelsea told Lindsay Kramer of Syracuse.com. "We just try to stay calm for him and not really talk it up. We don't ask him if he's nervous. So then maybe he won't think of that. I don't (think) he really knows what nervous is yet."
Grillo also had the opportunity to perform the anthem before three Auburn Doubledays baseball games last summer.
