Liberty's Durr cleared after missing 2 years due to long-haul COVID

After missing the 2020 and 2021 WNBA seasons due to severe complications from contracting COVID-19, New York Liberty guard Asia Durr says she can once again play basketball.

"I have officially been cleared to return to basketball," Durr tweeted Monday. "This will be a day in and day out grind. I'm so ready and dedicated to the process. I appreciate my close ones being here with me, it's been a crazy journey."

After being selected second overall out of Louisville in the 2019 draft, Durr averaged 9.7 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.6 rebounds per game as a rookie.

In a January 2021 episode of HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel," which was focused on athletes experiencing long-haul COVID, Durr detailed the debilitating fatigue she'd suffered since first contracting the disease in June 2020.

"There's days when I feel great, like I could go to the store or I could clean up," Durr said, according to the New York Daily News' Sarah Valenzuela. "Then there's days where I'm like, I just have to stay in a bit, and it's just like you feel like you got hit by a bus. My life has completely changed since June 8."
