Kingsbury, Thompson named Canada's Olympic flag bearers
Mikael Kingsbury and Marielle Thompson have been named Team Canada's Olympic flag bearers for the Milan Cortina Games, the Canadian Olympic Committee announced Wednesday.
Kingsbury is a freestyle skier who will be competing in his fourth Olympic Games. The 33-year-old won gold in men's moguls during the 2018 Games in PyeongChang. He also captured silver in the event in 2014 and 2022.
"I had goosebumps when I heard that I was going to be a flag bearer," Kingsbury told CBC's Devin Heroux. "One of the best honors in my life. Very proud."
Thompson will also be participating in her fourth Olympics. The 33-year-old freestyle skier specializes in ski cross, winning gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. She also claimed silver in Beijing in 2022.
The opening ceremony for the 2026 Games is set for Feb. 6.
