Bouchard to play French Open despite ankle sprain

An ankle injury won't stop Eugenie Bouchard from taking the court at Roland Garros.

The Canadian suffered a Grade 2 right ankle sprain last week during training, but will still participate in the French Open.

"I'm a competitor so I always want to play no matter what, especially if it's a Grand Slam. It's improving this week so, for me, it was an obvious decision," Bouchard told TSN's Mark Masters. "I want to not think about it and really get on the court and play my usual game as if I was totally healthy and forget about it. That's what I'll try and do and deal with the consequences after."

Bouchard, who caught her ankle while chasing down a drop shot, has asked tournament organizers if she can start on Tuesday, to gain an extra day or two of rest.

The 23-year-old has only made it past the fourth round at one major since reaching the 2014 Wimbledon final, and this latest setback won't help matters at the year's second Grand Slam.
