Serena Williams is, once again, one win away from making history.

The six-time US Open champion secured her spot in the final of this year's tournament, cruising past Elina Svitolina at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Thursday.

The Ukrainian looked threatening early, but her inability to capitalize on multiple break points proved fatal, as Williams ultimately settled in and came away with a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 win.

Williams will now make her 10th appearance in the final of her home Grand Slam, where she'll meet one of Belinda Bencic or Bianca Andreescu.

A victory would see Williams capture a record-tying 24th major title. Margaret Court holds the benchmark, though more than half of her triumphs came against amateur competition.

Williams' 23 Slam crowns are a record in the Open era, which began in 1986.

The indomitable No. 8 seed, who turns 38 later this month, will be hoping to go one step further than she did last year at Flushing Meadows, when she dropped a chaotic final to Naomi Osaka.

"I felt more prepared this tournament," said Williams, who has dropped just a single set en route to the showpiece match. "Wimbledon I probably had a week to prepare, so that was amazing. Australia, I was super prepared. I did great, then rolled my ankle. I shouldn't have even played the French Open. That was just a bonus just to compete in another Grand Slam.

"I just feel like I actually had time to train. I joked I trained more for Canada than I did for any other tournament this year, which was kind of funny. I just had a really tough year with injuries, mostly bad luck. I just needed to get injury-free."
