WWE congratulates Gronkowski on retirement
WWE joined others from across the sports and entertainment world Sunday in congratulating longtime New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski on his retirement from the NFL after nine seasons.
The company tweeted a video of Gronkowski helping friend Mojo Rawley win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 33 in 2017.
Rawley also congratulated Gronkowski, while Dash Wilder of the tag team The Revival joked about facing him at WrestleMania 35.
There has been plenty of speculation about Gronkowski making the transition to wrestling, and Paul "Triple H" Levesque - WWE's executive vice president of talent, live events, and creative - said in February that the company would welcome him.
"We've met a few times, and he's actually come down to the Performance Center and even done stuff with us at WrestleMania," Levesque told Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated.
"... Gronk has mentioned WWE before, that he loves it and said had so much fun doing it. I don't know if it's something he'd be seriously interested in, but that's how the conversation started with Ronda Rousey, too. Certainly, the door is open for him at WWE."
