By the numbers: Empoli's atrocious attack

@EmpoliCalcio

Empoli supporters privy to Saturday's visit from Lazio may feel like they've seen a ghost, or perhaps something more mystical and unlikely: a goal, and a brilliant one at that.

Thanks to Bosnian midfielder Rade Krunic's first on the campaign, Empoli nabbed a 1-0 advantage in the 67th minute, only to concede seconds later to Ciro Immobile and Balde Keita ten minutes from time for a third loss in four.

The Azzurri now have 15 Serie A goals on the season, worst among Europe's top five leagues, and six fewer domestically than Calabrian first-timer Crotone. Despite a scant half-dozen goals in its last 11 fixtures, Empoli still holds a healthy eight-point cushion on 18th-placed Palermo.

Here's a look at some stats that illustrate Empoli's goal-scoring futility:

12: The number of Empoli's 25 Serie A matches this year that have ended 0-0.

10: During a streak of 10 league fixtures between Sept. 18 and Nov. 20 Empoli did not score a goal. Zero.

6: The Azzurri's six goals away from home is a league worst, with Crotone and Cagliari unsurprisingly just behind on seven apiece.

3: Empoli has scored more than once just three times this season in the league; a 2-1 victory over Crotone, a 2-0 result with 10-man Cagliari, and a 4-0 drubbing of Pescara that ended the 10-match scoreless run.

1: Giovanni Martusciello's side has won just once away from the Stadio Carlo Castellani, the four-goal outburst at Pescara. For perspective, Pescara has one win this season, and it was courtesy of a forfeiture against Sassuolo in which the Neroverdi fielded ineligible Antonino Ragusa.

And for a silver lining of sorts:

10: Lukasz Skorupski's 10 clean sheets are second only to Roma shot-stopper and countryman Wojciech Szczesny's 11 this season.
